In the realm of compact SUVs, a fresh batch has emerged, with the Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV 3XO leading the pack as the newest additions.

If you’re feeling unsure about which model to pick, fear not! Here’s your comprehensive guide with all the comparisons you need to make an informed decision. These vehicles come full of features, sport distinctive designs, provide turbo-petrol engines, and offer a two-pedal driving experience. What’s more, even they’re priced incredibly closely. This fierce competition is to captivate the modern buyers who prioritise features, aesthetics, and driving enjoyment.

DETAILED COMPARISON

1.) PRICE COMPARISON

Mahindra XUV 3XO is priced around rupees 7.49 lakhs whereas Tata Nexon comes with a price of around 8.15 lakhs. So, TATA NEXON has a higher price than MAHINDRA 3XO.

2.) SPECIFICATIONS

The Mahindra XUV 3XO has different types of engines you can choose from. It has petrol and diesel options. For petrol, you can pick between two engines. One is a 1.2-litre mStallion TCMPFi engine, which gives you 110 horsepower and 200 Newton-metres of torque. The other petrol engine is a 1.2-litre mStallion TGDi engine, which offers 128 horsepower and 230 Newton-metres of torque. You can get these engines with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic gearbox. If you prefer diesel, the XUV 3XO has a 1.2-liter turbocharged CRDe engine. It gives you 115 horsepower and 300 Newton-metres of torque. You can get this diesel engine with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed AMT gearbox.

3.) DESIGN

The Mahindra XUV 3XO presents a robust and squared stance, characterised by its stubby rear end, elongated hood, and prominent placement of sizable wheels at the extremities. In contrast, the Tata Nexon pioneered the coupe SUV design paradigm, maintaining its aesthetic allure for nearly seven years. When juxtaposing the XUV 3XO against the Nexon, the latter boasts a more imposing frontal aspect and elevated posture. However, the XUV 3XO distinguishes itself with contemporary taillamp elements and visually striking wheel designs, infusing a sense of modernity and refinement into its exterior aesthetics.

Overall both cars have the same type of interior with a big emphasis on front occupant experience. In both cars, you’ll find some great features like dual-digital displays, a driver’s seat that adjusts for height, a central climate control system, and ventilated front seats. However, in the Nexon, the second row might feel a bit snug for taller passengers because of its curved roofline. Overall, though, both cars offer a pretty similar seating experience. When it comes to size, they’re pretty close too. The Nexon has a boot space of 382 litres, a bit bigger than the XUV 3XO’s 364 litres.

4.) SPECIALIZATION

When we scrutinise the top-tier models for their features, they appear to be evenly matched. Both boast dual-digital screens, advanced connected car technology, ventilated front seats, and a sprawling panoramic sunroof. However, the fully loaded XUV 3XO edges ahead of the Nexon with two standout features: Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and dual-zone climate control. These additions mark a significant leap forward, setting new standards in the segment.

5.) MILEAGE

Nexon claims that it can run 17 kilometres with a litre of fuel. But when tested in a city, it did 9.1 kilometres per litre, and on the highway, it managed 16.6 kilometres per litre. On average, it came out to around 10.8 kilometres per litre. With a tank that holds 44 litres, you can go about 476 kilometres without refuelling. Now, for the XUV 3XO, it can go 18.2 kilometres with a litre of fuel. But when tested in the city, it did about 9.6 kilometres per litre, and on the highway, it reached 18.08 kilometres per litre. Overall, it averaged around 11.7 kilometres per litre. Its tank holds 42 litres, so you can cover approximately 492 kilometres without needing to fill up again.

6.) Further Comparison

In the XUV 3XO, it has a 1.2-litre GDi engine that pumps out 129 horsepower and 230 Newton-metres of torque. Meanwhile, the Nexon, it’s a regular turbo-petrol engine producing 118 horsepower and 170 Newton-metres of torque. The XUV 3XO comes with a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission, whereas the Nexon is equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

7.) Dimensions

Mahindra XUV 3XO compact SUV measures 3,990 mm in length, 1,821 mm in width and 1,647 mm in height. The SUV comes with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. On the other hand, Tata Nexon has 3,995 mm of length, 1,805 mm of width, 1,620 mm of height and a wheelbase of 2,498 mm. This means the Mahindra XUV 3XO comes slightly shorter in length than Nexon, while comes wider and taller than the Tata SUV. Also, it has a longer wheelbase, which means the Mahindra XUV 3XO offers better space inside the cabin compared to the Tata Nexon.

Conclusion

In the showdown between the  Mahindra 3XO and Nexon, a mere price difference sets them apart. Yet, this seemingly small margin holds significant value. Opting for the XUV 3XO not only secures Level 2 ADAS but also extends the warranty to an unlimited kilometre limit, paralleling the Nexon’s three-year coverage. It all converges on a fundamental choice: do you crave the mightier engine and advanced driver assistance features? Here, the XUV 3XO takes the lead, offering a compelling advantage over its Nexon counterpart.
