TVS Apache RR310 Summary

Price: TVS Apache RR 310 price for its variant – Apache RR 310 Standard starts at Rs. 2,72,419. The mentioned Apache RR 310 price is the average ex-showroom.

TVS Apache RR 310 is a sports bike available in only 1 variant and 2 colours. The TVS Apache RR 310 is powered by 312.2cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 33.5 bhp and a torque of 27.3 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, TVS Apache RR 310 comes up with anti-locking braking system. This Apache RR 310 bike weighs 174 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 11 liters.

TVS Motor Company has launched the 2021 Apache RR 310 in the Indian market. The latest iteration of the motorcycle packs several upgrades over the 2020 model. These include several standard revisions and optional accessories.

The list of standard upgrades includes a wave bite key that is claimed to deliver enhanced security and work as an in-hand adjuster for damping adjustments. The 2021 model also gets tweaks to the colour-TFT display that now includes an engine rev limit indicator, a day trip meter, an over-speed indicator, and store/display digital documents. The new model further benefits from a new race muffler that is claimed to revise the geometry for higher lean angles and a racier exhaust note.

The list of optional extras includes Dynamic Kit and Race Kit. The Dynamic Kit includes fully-adjustable KYM front forks and rear mono-shock, and an anti-rust brass coated drive chain. The Race Kit, on the other hand, revises the ergonomics for a sportier rider’s triangle through a race ergo handlebar, raised footrests, and knurled footpegs. Buyers can also enhance the styling of the motorcycle through the Race Replica graphics and red alloy wheels.

Buyers can customise the motorcycle and get the optional accessories installed from the factory through the Built To Order (BTO) platform. Interested buyers can use the TVS ARIVE app or visit the web configurator to buy and customise the Apache RR 310.

The styling cues remain unaltered and the 2021 Apache RR 310 continues to feature a twin-pod headlight at the front, a full-fairing design, step-up saddle, and a side-slung exhaust. The colour options include two choices – Racing Red and Titanium Black. The feature list retained from the 2020 model includes full-LED lighting, a Bluetooth-enabled colour TFT display, ride-by-wire throttle, four riding modes, and dual-channel ABS. The mechanical specifications continue to include the 312.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 33.5bhp at 9,700rpm and 27.3Nm of peak torque at 7,700rpm. The motor is linked to a six-speed gearbox.

TVS Apache RR 310 Expert Opinion

For 2021, TVS has kept its focus on improving the performance of the Apache RR 310 and aims to take on the updated KTM RC 390 that is due this month. So, what are these changes? And how have they made a difference to how the RR 310 performs on the track? Let’s find out.

The Apache RR 310 has been in the market since 2017 and doesn’t need any introduction. After all, it is the motorcycle that put TVS on the map for its focus on performance. And in these years, the RR310 has received a few updates; the biggest one being the inclusion of ride modes last year.

Now, we’ve ridden the RR 310 on the track several times and loved the motorcycle for what it is each time. Although, there were a few elements that were keeping it from being the perfect track tool. And TVS seems to have addressed those concerns now. So we’re here at the MMRT to test out the 2021 iteration of the Apache RR 310. For this year’s update, TVS has kept its focus on improving performance and aims to take on the updated KTM RC 390 that is due this month. So, what are these changes? And how have they made a difference to how the RR 310 performs on the track? Let’s find out.

What has changed on the outside though is this special livery. The 2021 model is offered in this race-inspired, One Make Championship colour scheme of red, blue, and white. The bike also comes with red wheels and customers have the option of choosing a personalized number that features on the windscreen. The quality of plastics, as well as the fitment of components, are the same too. And we aren’t complaining. Just like the previous model, the quality of the 2021 Apache RR 310 continues to feel top-notch and premium.

Now, the changes that are offered on the motorcycle are not offered as standard. Instead, TVS is offering an online customisation program that allows customers to purchase different parts online to alter the RR 310 according to their needs. There are two kits on offer.

The Dynamic kit will get you fully adjustable suspension at both ends as well as a brass-coated chain with anti-rust properties. Meanwhile, the Race kit comes with the race ergo handlebar that is lower than the standard version and offers a sportier riding position. You also have higher-set, knurled footpegs.

The updates don’t stop here. The 2021 Apache RR 310’s instrument cluster has also been given an update. It now comes with a dynamic rev limiter that functions on the engine temperature and rpm. There also is an overspeed indicator that can be set by the rider and a day trip meter that essentially provides a summary of your trip. It even lets the rider store documents for added convenience.

Having ridden the Apache RR 310 in stock form and then with the race kit back-to-back gave us a fair idea of what’s changed. The handling on the previous RR 310 was more than commendable, although this version is a level higher. Although not noticeable as soon as you get on, the ride on the race track has surely improved.

The adjustable forks make the turn in even more precise and with a few tweaks, the front dives way lesser than the stock setting under hard braking. And on corners, with adjustments to the rear mono shock, there is far lesser weave, which is fairly confidence-inspiring. Meanwhile, the race handlebar, which is positioned 5 degrees inward and 8 degrees downward not only have changed the riding dynamics, it has also improved the wind resistance.

Although what I liked most is the adjustment to the footpegs that are now 4.5 degrees higher. While the pegs scraped on a couple of corners, the Apache is now able to achieve slightly higher lean angles as compared to the stand

ard version. Now all of these changes are done keeping in mind that the Apache RR 310 would also be used in the city and for touring as well.

Now, there aren’t any changes to its performance. It continues to be strapped with a 312cc, single-cylinder engine that is capable of churning out 33.52bhp and 27.3Nm. However, the mechanical sounds and vibrations seem to have reduced, and with a few tweaks to the exhaust note, the 2021 Apache RR 310 also sounds mildly different.

The last time I rode the Apache RR 310 on the track, I can recall telling my colleagues how close to perfection the motorcycle is. As we found out through our previous experiences, the motorcycle is likable in the city as well as while riding long distances. And while we already liked how it behaves on the track, with the addition of these performance upgrades, the RR 310 now seems like a complete and even more likable motorcycle to ride.

Now if you choose the Dynamic kit, it would cost you Rs 12,000 while the Race kit is priced at Rs 5,000. The special livery costs Rs 4,500 while the Red alloys would set you back by Rs 1500. All of these costs are added to the base price of Rs 2.60 lakh. TVS says that it will offer the Apache RR 310 with the Built To Order (BTO) platform in limited numbers; 100 units a month to be precise.

But if you’ve wanted a sportier version of the RR 310 and hit the track or twisty roads often, these performance upgrades are the way to go. What’s more, even owners of the previous-gen RR 310’s can have most of these parts fitted onto their bikes. So, to conclude, the Built to Order platform as well as the performance kits have added greater value and aspiration to the Apache RR 310, that in our opinion, is a motorcycle that is already priced well.

2021 TVS Apache RR 310 BTO Review: Top 5 Reasons to Buy
Neil Nair
22/01/2022
Pros: Can be personalised, Gets segment-first features, Premium components Cons: Has significant vibrations, Front brake feel could be better Instead of merely updating and introducing a new version like most other manufacturers do, TVS has given the customer the freedom to choose what they want from their motorcycle in the form of the BTO or Built to Order programme. And the first model to roll out from this platform is the Apache RR 310 BTO. We have already ridden the motorcycle on the race track and liked what it had to offer there. But now, we’ve put it to the test in conditions it will be used the most- in the city, on the highway, and twisties. So let us tell you five reasons to buy the motorcycle and two reasons to avoid it. What is BTO? TVS Apache RR310 Right Side View Before we get ahead, let me tell you what the BTO platform is all about. The Built To Order platform is the first of its kind programme in the country. It allows you to easily customize the RR 310 to suit your needs with factory-fitted parts. And there are two kits on offer- the Race Kit and Dynamic kit. TVS Apache RR310 Rider Footpeg The Race kit adds Rs 5,000 to the cost and offers knurled footpegs that are positioned 30mm higher than the stock ones. These offer much higher lean angles and solve the issue with the stock footpegs that grazed the tarmac easily. You also get clip-on handlebars that are lower and closer to the rider. While these are sportier and a big plus on a race track, the revised ergonomics mean wrist aches are evident after riding for a few hours in the city. The second package is the Dynamic Kit which costs Rs 12,000 and that brings us to the first reason you should buy the Apache RR 310 BTO. Adjustable suspension TVS Apache RR310 adjustable suspension As part of the Dynamic Kit, the RR 310 comes with fully-adjustable 43mm KYB forks at the front. It offers 25-clicks of rebound and damping each and 8-step preload adjustment. Meanwhile, the mono-shock offers 10-step preload adjustment and 20-step rebound adjustability so there is a lot of room to play around with. Firstly, a full-adjustable suspension is a first in the segment. It is quite uncommon in motorcycles that cost thrice the price of the Apache RR 310. It opens the doors to tweak the motorcycle as per your riding style, road condition, and weight and is quite easy to tune. All you need is a flat head screwdriver and a 14mm spanner. TVS Apache RR310 Left Side View While I weigh 60kg and could tell you the setting in which I am comfortable, the same might not apply to you or your style or the environment you ride in. So I recommend getting the suspension setup right according to your needs or visiting a tuning expert for an even more precise fit. Lastly, the dynamic kit also includes a brass-coated chain. While this not only looks cooler, it also is more durable since brass does not rust like steel chains. Special livery TVS Apache RR310 Right Side View Besides the option to tweak the suspension and revise the ergonomics, the TVS Apache RR 310 BTO also comes with this interesting livery for an additional Rs 4,500. The theme with its bold colours and graphics has been inspired by TVSs One Make Championship RR 310. While this does look unique and turns heads, it might be too flashy for some. TVS Apache RR310 Front View Worry not, because the Apache RR 310 BTO can be had in the standard colours as well as a black colour option with red wheels for an added Rs 1,500. Moreover, customers can also choose a personalised number to have on the windscreen at no additional cost adding to the feel-good factor and the uniqueness of the RR 310 BTO. Loaded with features TVS Apache RR310 Instrument Cluster Over the years, TVS has strived to bring in some interesting and segment-first tech in the Apache RR 310. While the RR 310 BTO gets no change to its technology, it is worth mentioning as one of the strong reasons to buy the motorcycle. So, there is the full-colour TFT screen with Bluetooth connectivity. Once paired to a smartphone, the display can show turn-by-turn navigation. In addition to that, the instrument cluster also shows all vital information including service reminder, performance records, a dynamic rev limiter that functions on engine rpm and temperature as well as an overspeed limiter. TVS Apache RR310 Head Light However, the most tempting of its features are the four ride modes- Urban, Rain, Sport, and Track that alter the power output, throttle response, and ABS intervention. And to top it off, the RR 310 also comes with full-LED lighting for the turn signals and tail lamp and an extremely powerful pair of LED projector headlamps. Engine performance TVS Apache RR310 Right Side View The other reason to consider the Apache RR 310 is the flexible performance it delivers from its 312cc, single-cylinder engine. On Urban mode, the RR 310 offers 25.8bhp and 25Nm of torque. Here, the torque is concentrated in the lower rev range and the speed is limited to 134kmph. Even the Rain mode offers similar power output although with restrictive throttle response and a highly sensitive ABS. Meanwhile, on Sport mode, the Apache RR 310 delivers a quicker throttle response and the full 34bhp and 27.3Nm on tap. TVS Apache RR310 Right Side View However, in Track mode is where the Apache RR 310 comes alive. Even though the power figures are the same as in Sport mode, the motorcycle delivers an aggressive and precise throttle response. The revs climb faster and the engine screams to 10,500rpm taking the RR 310 to a top speed of 170kmph. But the only kink in its armour is the gearbox that still feels clunky all through the six gears. Handling abilities TVS Apache RR310 Front View The Apache RR 310’s handling prowess has always been its strong point. And the addition of the BTO kits with the adjustable suspension and revised ergonomics has just upped its value. After having set up the suspension as per your needs, the Apache RR 310 BTO can impress in every situation you put it in- be it in the city, the highway, or the weekend ride with twisties.
