Yamaha MT-07 Summary

Yamaha MT-07 is expected to launch in India in October 2024 in the expected price range of ₹ 7,50,000 to ₹ 8,00,000. Currently available bikes that are similar to MT-07 are the Triumph Trident 660, Yamaha MT-03 & Triumph Street Triple R. Another bike similar to MT-07 is the KTM 650 Duke which is launching in January 2026 in India.

India Yamaha Motor is expected to update its portfolio with the launch of premium products in our market. The company recently showcased several premium motorcycles to its dealer partners in India, and the list included the MT-07 naked roadster that will rival the likes of the Kawasaki Z650 in the Indian market.

Notably, this motorcycle is already available for sale in several international markets, and the India-bound MT-07 is expected to carry similar specifications and features as the global model. The styling cues on this motorcycle comprise an aggressive front fascia that includes a single-pod headlight, a muscular fuel tank, a raked-up tail section, a wide handlebar, a compact exhaust canister, and 17-inch wheels on both ends.

The mechanical specifications on the international-spec Yamaha MT-07 include a 689cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin CP2 engine, which also powers the Yamaha YZF-R7 – another motorcycle that is heading to the Indian market. The CP2 motor features a 270-degree crankshaft, which gives it an uneven firing order. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor delivers 72.4bhp at 8,750rpm and a peak torque of 67Nm at 6,500rpm on the international-spec mode. We expect to see similar numbers on the India-bound model.

Just like the global model, the feature list should include full-LED lighting, a five-inch TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, and an optional quick shift system. The safety net will include a dual-channel ABS and an assist and slipper clutch as standard. The hardware will comprise a diamond-type chassis, while the suspension tasks will be handled by telescopic front forks and a link-type rear mono-shock. Then, the braking hardware will comprise twin 298mm rotors at the front with radially mounted callipers and a single 245mm disc at the rear. Lastly, the motorcycle will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels that will be shod in Michelin Road 5 tyres.

Apart from the Kawasaki Z650, the upcoming Yamaha MT-07 will compete against the likes of the Honda CB650R and Triumph Trident 660 in India. We expect this motorcycle to cost around Rs. 7 lakh (ex-showroom).
